Put safety first when doing DIY projects in the nursery

Put safety first when doing DIY projects in the nurseryWhen carrying out DIY home improvements in a child's nursery, safety is a more important consideration than ever.

In an article for Prescott eNews, Rosie Romero, an expert in the home remodelling industry, said safety should always come before aesthetics.

She pointed out that millions of babies and toddlers suffer accidents at home every year, many of which can be easily avoided.

"Keep your new little loved one safe and sound by inspecting every item that enters the room for kid-friendliness," she advised.

Ms Romero recommended using water-based paint on walls and allowing the room to air out for several days before bringing the child back in.

Plastic inserts should be plugged into electrical outlets to prevent little fingers from wandering and electrical cords should be kept out of reach.

When putting up shelves, Ms Romero advised parents to place them well out of reach of little ones and make sure they are anchored solidly to the wall.

Other DIY tips include installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors outside the child's room and removing lids from toy boxes to prevent trapped fingers.
