Scots 'favouring DIY ahead of hiring professionals'

Scots Favouring DIY - lets-do-diy.comSignificant numbers of Scottish homeowners are planning to get to grips with DIY this year, according to Clydesdale Bank.

In its most recent Housebuyers Report, the bank revealed that just over two-thirds (68 per cent) of those living in the region now intend on carrying out home improvements themselves rather than bringing in professional tradesmen.

Steve Reid, retail director at Clydesdale Bank, said: "It would seem that in the current economic climate many homeowners are planning on saving cash by putting in some hard graft themselves."

However, pointing out that accidents can occur during DIY work, he advises people to ensure that they have adequate insurance in place before starting a home improvement project.

The study also showed that six per cent of Scots underestimate the total cost of a DIY project.

Similar calls were also made by esure which stated people should cover furniture and carpets with plastic sheeting before removing ceiling tiles.
