Sealing out draughts 'effective DIY project'

Sealing Out Draughts - lets-do-diy.comDIY enthusiasts wishing to take steps towards improving the energy efficiency of their property should look to seal out draughts.

Writing in a Daily Telegraph article, Kara Gammell states that as around a fifth of all heat lost in a home is as a result of draughts, sealing up such gaps can be an effective means to prevent air from escaping.

And while there are a variety of ways that such a DIY project can be tackled - the materials for which can be sourced from the majority of home improvement stores - she points to comments made by Paul Hale, technical director at the energy consultants Pureworld, that one of the easiest and most popular draught solutions is self-sticking weatherstrip tape, which can be attached to windows and doors.

One other way those looking to improve the energy efficiency of a property is by installing double-glazing, as poorly-insulated window frames and single-glazed windows can account for as much as a fifth of the average amount of heat lost in a home.

Meanwhile, BBC television Dick Strawbridge presenter recently wrote in the Guardian that "there is no excuse" for people not to tackle any eco-DIY projects.
