Shutter company gains green recognition

California Shutters - lets-do-diy.comA leading online shutter retailer, The California Company, has gained Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. Established in 2003, the California Company specialises in DIY bespoke shutters and blinds, and is now the only online shutter company in the UK to sell shutters with the coveted full FSC certification.

The FSC is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible forest management. FSC certification is awarded to companies that demonstrate they comply with the highest social and environmental standards in relation to forests and forest-dependent people, both here in the UK and abroad.

Murray Clark, Managing Director of The California Company, says: "More consumers than ever before are keen to do their bit for the environment. Unfortunately much illegal wood still finds its way into the manufacturing and supply chain, and as such consumers want reassurance that the wooden products they buy for their home come from sustainable, forest-friendly resources. With the FSC certification, our customers can rest assured that they are buying top quality wooden shutters that are sustainably sourced and responsibly manufactured. We're delighted to be the first online shutter company in the UK to sell shutters with this full certification."

The FSC is the only wood certification scheme supported and endorsed by major international environmental charities, including the WWF, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and The Woodland Trust.

Murray adds: "This is just the first step in our green journey; we aim to make our business as green as possible over the coming 12 months, and will be consulting Business Link and green Government body Envirowise to help us in our endeavours."
