Tackle garden DIY before going away

Tackle Garden DIY - lets-do-diy.comBritons planning on going away on holiday this summer are being advised to first tackle a number of DIY gardening tasks, it has been revealed.

Among these, home improvement enthusiasts were advised by Vivienne Hambly in a Guardian article to ensure that any leaking pipes are fixed prior to departure.

In an effort to ensure that grass and plants receive enough water, people were also urged to mulch their garden in an effort to keep soil damp and prevent weeds from growing.

Those looking to tackle such a gardening project were advised that "almost anything" - from stones and fallen leaves to bark chips and straw - can be used for mulch.

Home improvement enthusiasts were advised to consider setting up their own irrigation system, the materials for which can be found at "larger home stores and garden centres".

Ms Hambly also advises homeowners to consider the security of their garden before going away.

Indeed, moneysupermarket.com recently recommended people ensure that gates and fences and are kept in good condition and security lighting is installed in order to deter would-be thieves.
