A significant number of people are getting to grips with DIY in order to boost the attractiveness of their home, it has been revealed.
In an effort to increase the chances of selling their property, Co-operative Bank indicates that just under half (49 per cent) of people are repainting their home.
Meanwhile, carrying out home improvements in order to increase the amount of space could be advisable, as more than a quarter of those on the search for a new property state they wish to move because they want more room.
Some 13 per cent of people told the bank they are after a new property as they believe that the housing market is beginning to pick up again.
However, John Hughes, director of retail banking at the Co-operative Bank, claims: "With much speculation about green shoots of recovery in the housing market, the findings do indicate that consumer optimism is starting to return, although there clearly still remains some way to go."
Meanwhile, a recent Sainsbury’s study revealed that loft extensions are the most popular home improvements with which to add additional space to a home, followed by rear extensions and conservatories.
