Homeowners in the UK who are hoping to maximise their house values by carrying out DIY projects have been given some tips by Rated People.
Ottokar Rosenberger, sales and marketing director for the tradesperson recommendation service, explained that it is important to always keep in mind what might appeal to potential buyers when undertaking a home improvement scheme.
"A project that increases room or storage space is more likely to be attractive to a potential buyer than the installation of room features that are based on personal taste, for example a new fireplace," he said.
He added that DIYers should also be aware of their limitations, as taking on a project too big or difficult could result in complications and prove detrimental to the value-boosting efforts.
Some 91.3 per cent of visitors to the National Home Improvement Show in September stated that they are planning on carrying out a renovation scheme of some kind in the next year, with 27.7 per cent doing so to increase their house price.
