DIY-loving artists are set to present their wallpaper collections to the public, after the details of a new exhibition that will open in Manchester in the new year have been announced.
Taking place in the Whitworth Art Gallery in February, The Walls Are Talking exhibition, curated by Christine Woods and Gill Saunders, will showcase more than 30 international artists – including Damien Hirst and David Shrigley – and what they like to have on the walls of their homes.
Perhaps providing inspiration for potential DIYers and proving that wallpaper can be a centrepiece in its own right, the show will demonstrate how the artists’ interest in wall art has grown and how they have each exploited a wide variety of themes – from the amusing to the powerful.
The exhibition will open for preview from February 06th 2010 at the gallery that was established in 1889 as the Whitworth Institute and currently houses more than 50,000 items.
