Those homeowners looking to do some DIY in order to make their property more attractive to prospective buyers should consider the amount of space.
A recent Observer article reports that Britons wishing to sell up should look to declutter their home and concentrate on carrying out simple improvements to help enhance the attractive features of a property, instead of a wholescale refurbishment.
Charlie Noel-Buxton, partner at estate agent Cluttons, adds space should be a particular consideration for those looking to improve the marketability of a home as “there can never be enough storage”.
He adds that if two apartments were exactly the same in terms of size and layout, but one contained maximised wall-to-floor storage space, “that is the one that will probably get more interest from buyers”.
Meanwhile, First Direct pointed out that setting up a home study or creating extra storage space underneath a staircase could also help to attract would-be buyers.
Indeed, a recent HSBC study revealed that 91 per cent of valuation experts believe that decluttering a home would help make a difference in the property selling process.
