DIY enthusiasts have been told that cork flooring is one of the best ways of insulating against heat loss.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, DIY expert Sarah Lonsdale explained that in addition to features like double glazed windows, cork flooring can help to improve insulation levels.
Cork and lino flooring are biodegradable, she said, adding that they do not retain the sort of materials that cause suffering for those with allergies.
“They have both come a long way since the 1970s in terms of colour and designs,” she commented.
This follows claims made recently by Dick Strawbridge, presenter of It’s Not Easy Being Green, that providing the right kind of information is crucial to changing Britons’ attitude toward green energy.
Mr Strawbridge said that once homeowners come to understand and appreciate the value of renewable energy, they are more likely to incorporate green features in their abodes.
