Getting to grips with DIY could be an effective way for people to add value to their home.
Citing recent research carried out by HSBC, Christina Jordan – in an article for Love Money – points out that adding a new bathroom could increase property prices by an average of £2,442.
Meanwhile, decorating and recarpeting a home may see property values rise by £1,994 and £1,273 respectively, while resurfacing a drive can add £1,283.
However, Ms Jordan claims that consumers’ motivation for DIY should not be solely driven by the desire to increase value.
“Of course many of us make home improvements in order to better enjoy our homes and have every intention of continuing living in the property,” she states.
Meanwhile, those wanting to attempt a large DIY project may be interested to hear that adding a conservatory could see a home’s value typically rise by just over £7,000.
Speaking recently, Andrew Leech, director for the National Home Improvement Council, claimed that adding an extension on to a home is “a good idea”.
