Meanwhile, the firm states that laying gravel on driveways can help to alert homeowners when someone is approaching.
Such recommendations follow research revealing two-thirds of Britons feel proud about the area where they live, with just under half (47 per cent) of such consumers citing being safe as one of the main factors behind this.
Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager for Halifax Home Insurance, points out: “Not only is safety in an area a top reason for feeling ‘regional pride’, it is also top on the priority for most people when deciding where to live.”
