Conducting DIY projects in the outdoors could make Britons more positive and reduce stress, it has been claimed.
According to Professor Geoff Beattie, head of school and dean of psychological sciences at Manchester University, a quarter of Brits are putting their wellbeing at risk by not spending enough time in green environments.
He added: "Natural environments illicit specific emotional reactions, which reduce levels of stress; they promote people’s willingness to express positive views like joy and satisfaction."
Further to this, Professor Beattie said that gardening is particularly effective as it is good physical activity, which makes people feel as though they are "taking you out of yourself".
Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Ronseal recently offered some gardening tips to DIY enthusiasts.
She explained that container planting is a great way to turn a paved area into a green oasis and that a quick tidy can help your garden easier to manage.
