Britons have been given DIY tips on improving the security of their home.
The home improvement advice, which comes from Ratedpeople.com, encouraged people to install double-glazed windows and security lighting.
In addition, homeowners were urged to increase the number of locks placed on external doors and to upgrade their burglar alarm.
Such DIY advice comes as the company points out that the rate of domestic burglaries is on the rise, as criminals are using a variety of methods in their attempts to break into a home.
Ottokar Rosenberger, sales and marketing director at the firm, states: "The large majority of homes within the UK will have some sort of security feature in place but, by upgrading and investing in further security measures, the cost of insurance can be decreased."
He adds that such improvements will – over the course of time – pay for themselves.
Taking on such DIY advice could be especially advisable for older people as 23 per cent of over-50s questioned by RIAS claim to be more concerned about their property being broken into then they were a year ago.
