DIYer creates ‘mini-Palace of Versailles’

Updated:5th September 2019No Comments1 Min Read

DIYer creates 'mini-Palace of Versailles'A DIY fan with no formal building qualifications has turned his flat into a Palace of Versailles replica.

Former Merchant Navy chef Adrian Reeman has spent the last 23 years on the DIY project inside his ninth floor tower block flat.

The 59-year-old said the flat was now "just the same as the Palace of Versailles", the French palace which is on the outskirts of Paris.

"I didn’t originally decide to create something like this. I just started panelling the walls and decorating and it all took off from there," he explained.

Mr Reeman, who has never been to the Palace of Versailles, began by panelling the walls over the existing wallpaper.

He has used discarded salad bowls and plugs to create some of the DIY effects.

The council has a policy which states that the flat must be left in the same state it was in at the start of the tenancy and Mr Reeman believes he will have to stay there for good.

He remarked that there was "no way" he could return it to the original style.

The Palace of Versailles is known for its lavish and luxurious decor.
