DIY enthusiasts looking to save energy and money have been encouraged to start bringing green technology into their homes by AlertMe.
After being nominated by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills for the iAwards, a spokesperson for the smart energy monitoring system provider spoke of the benefits of smart meters that homeowners can take advantage of quickly and easily.
She explained that while people are talking about changes that can be made in the future, the AlertMe meter – which monitors energy use over the internet or phone – means householders can reap the rewards of the technology immediately.
"It’s a topic that everyone is interested in – and in many cases the changes people can make to reduce their carbon footprint also save them money, so there’s a double benefit," she said.
The iAwards celebrate innovation, technology and science in Britain and they are the first government-backed project of its kind.
