Taking the time to keep the exterior of a home in good condition can help to boost its overall value, it has been suggested.
DIY enthusiasts could be interested in guidance from Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), that it is "crucial" homeowners make sure the outside of their property is well-maintained.
The NHIC director states that new doors and windows are an effective way in which to improve a property’s appearance and that these should be "well-looked after and well-painted".
"A dishevelled fence or a rickety gate is no good to anybody and depreciates the value of a property," Mr Leech adds.
Carrying out home improvements on the perimeter of a home can also help to protect it from intruders, the director points out.
Indeed, taking steps to bolster security can increase the value of the average property by £3,091, Halifax revealed in a study released in July.
