Getting to grips with DIY in the garden could significantly boost the value of a property, it has been suggested.
Award-winning garden designer Jill Fenwick claims that having an attractive green space could not only increase the overall value of a home, but can also make it stand out more to would-be buyers.
She states: “If you have got two identical houses at the same price, one’s got a boring lawn and nothing else and the other one has got a beautiful garden then which one are going to buy?”
Meanwhile, those considering a DIY project in their garden may be interested to hear her comments that decking is proving to be a popular feature for green spaces, with many people also looking for space to set up a barbecue.
The designer also points out that the economic downturn is increasingly seeing people choosing to stay in and renovate their existing property rather than move home.
Research carried out by FindaProperty.com last month revealed that more than three-quarters of buyers believe having a garden at the back of a home increases the overall value a house by at least 15 per cent.
