In news that is likely to interest DIY enthusiasts, an environment expert has claimed it is "absolutely critical" to encourage sustainable behaviour among homeowners by increasing its affordability.
Ahead of this week’s general election, all three of the main political parties have promised to improve energy efficiency, while the government launched its Pay As You Save (PAYS) scheme late last year.
Through the PAYS initiative, DIY Britons are provided with incentivised loans to carry out green home improvements.
But in spite of this, Tony Rooke, environmental manager for Logica, the business and technology consultants, claimed that businesses need to take the lead in motivating green behaviour among homeowners.
"The easiest way to do it is to make the choice of sustainable behaviour cheaper than the choice to be unsustainable, and in some cases remove [the latter]," he commented.
Meanwhile, Alaine Christian, writing for Footprints Eco Shop, has identified double-glazing as an effective way of improving insulation levels and lowering the cost of annual energy bills.
