Increasing numbers of British homeowners are installing eco-friendly upgrades as part of DIY projects, British Eco Energy has revealed.
According to a spokesperson for the organisation, energy-saving devices such as smart meters have become popular and are set to become more so given the priority the government has recently placed on sustainable living.
In addition, he commented that such home improvements will naturally encourage Brits to become more environmentally friendly, as there is often a financial incentive that comes with them.
"Having a personal form of energy generation has a definite effect on how power conscious [people] are. When they have their own electricity supply they naturally focus on ways of reducing their energy consumption," he said.
It was announced this week by the Department of Energy and Climate Change that smart meters will be installed in every UK home by 2020.
Smart meters give detailed, real-time information on how much energy is being consumed in a house and could give homeowners the opportunity to save money on bills and reduce their impact on the environment.
