British homeowners who want to start getting involved with DIY projects but are worried that they do not have the skills to do so have been told by Build It magazine that it is not too late to start learning.
Research from trade tool retailer Screwfix recently showed that although 85 per cent of UK males over the age of 50 can rewire a plug, the same cannot be said for those in their 20s – only 49 per cent can do it.
In addition, 13 per cent find it impossible to change a lightbulb and 31 per cent do not know how to swap a fuse.
However, Duncan Hayes, editor of Build It magazine, explained that trends have simply changed and that it is homeowners rather than renters who are more likely to be carrying out DIY projects.
"I don’t think necessarily it is too late to learn, I think the time people are doing it in their lives is just different. It’s changed, but there are still people doing it definitely," he added.
