There has never been a better time to carrying out DIY home improvements, according to one expert.
James Max, a qualified chartered surveyor and a semi-finalist in the first series of The Apprentice, explained that tastefully decorated properties are selling well across the UK at the moment.
Indeed, those that have undergone recent renovations are being snapped up at much higher prices than those that have been neglected.
"In a good market, rubbish property sells really well because it is seen as an opportunity," he explained.
"In a difficult market, what sells? Really well done up, tastefully done up, nicely and professionally done property.
"That is selling still at a premium wherever you live in the country."
Mr Max pointed to new bathrooms and "really good lighting" as examples of home improvements that can attract buyers in the current market.
Green home improvement may also make a property more appealing. For example, insulation and double glazing will keep heat in, which will lead to lower energy bills.
