It is important for parents to teach DIY skills to their children while they are still young, it has been claimed.
According to Melanie Griffiths, editor of Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, parents should involve their children in DIY projects in the hope that they will develop skills for later in life.
"Let the kids get involved and help out where they can and hopefully they will take an interest," she said.
"To teach your children the basic skills, just really get them involved in jobs around the house."
This follows claims made recently by Andrew Bernard, the DIY whiz, that Britons should not be intimidated by carrying out home improvement projects.
With the right safety measures in place, anyone is able to transform their own home, Mr Bernard said.
He added that things "can’t go wrong" provided the correct safety precautions have been taken.
