Brits who are buying a new home or hoping to move up the property ladder in the near future have been told to be wary of DIY blunders made in the property by the previous owner.
According to tradesperson recommendation service Rated People, the poor home improvement skills of former inhabitants could put new residents at risk of property damage or health issues, particularly when it comes to electrical and gas systems or appliances.
Sales and marketing director of the firm Ottokar Rosenberger commented: "Homeowners must always ensure that any home they are moving into is safe, particularly when it comes to manually installed heating and electricity."
People who trust their own skills might therefore find themselves having to carry out a number of DIY or repair projects if Mr Rosenberger’s warnings are anything to go by.
Research from Screwfix recently found that 43 per cent of men think that they are "handy" around the home, despite 48 per cent not even owning a tool box.
