Swimming enthusiasts looking to combine their passion for the sport with home improvements may want to consider adding a pool to their property.
By doing so, the overall value of a house could be increased by up to five per cent, Sam Dunn, in an article for the Independent, suggests.
James Brooks, of London-based estate agent Kinleigh, Folkard & Hayward, states: "A swimming pool adds real value if you already have a five-bedroom, half-acre pile in the countryside – people expect it as a feature."
However, those interested in such a DIY project may wish to heed his advice that a swimming pool is only likely to add value for certain properties and that those on the search for a normal four-bedroom home are unlikely to pay more money for a home with a pool as it is not a feature they would normally be looking for.
Sports lovers may also want to consider adding a tennis court to their home as James Cleland, partner in Knight Frank’s country department, recently told the Daily Telegraph that doing so "can certainly add value", although he suggested that careful consideration about where it will be located is required.
