Selecting either PVCu or timber doors could prove to be an effective home improvement option, it has been suggested.
However, DIY enthusiasts looking to carry out work on their property on a tight budget may wish to opt for the former, Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor at Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, claims.
Doing so could be particularly advisable for those looking to replace their doors, as she points out that “PVCu is almost always going to be a cheaper – and therefore more appealing – option”.
She adds that these kinds of door are also low-maintenance and that while timber doors will need inspecting and touching up on a regular basis, if looked after properly they can “look great for decades”.
Ms Griffiths goes on to claim that wherever possible DIY enthusiasts should look to restore original windows and doors.
Her comments follow a recent Independent article where stylist Abigail Ahern claimed upgrading door handles can be an effective way of refreshing a home’s look.
