Taking the time to restore a period property can prove to be an effective form of home improvement, it has been suggested.
By renovating original features – for instance restoring original floorboards – Ratedpeople.com points out that not only can homeowners boost the value of their property, they can also attract prospective buyers.
The organisation also notes that renovating a period fireplace is a particularly popular restoration project, as those looking to carry out such work were advised to search scrap yard and antique shops when sourcing materials.
Ottokar Rosenberger, sales and marketing director for Ratedpeople.com, points out that restoring period features can be "a labour of love".
Meanwhile, DIY enthusiasts may be interested in his comments that stripping paint from iron fireplaces, sanding wooden banisters and cleaning floor tiles "can all be completed relatively easily".
Speaking earlier this month, George Clarke, presenter of Build a New Life, claimed that people are increasingly looking to place a personal touch into their homes.
