The extent of the damage caused by last year’s storms has been unveiled in a new study.
In the inaugural Sainsbury’s Home Insurance Claims Index, storms were revealed to have accounted for 15.9 per cent of home insurance claims filed with the firm between January and June 2008.
Meanwhile, claims for such damage were revealed to stand at an average of £460 last March.
Water escaping for a property was shown to be the most popular area to make a claim on home insurance cover in the first half of 2008, with accidental damage accounting for 15.36 per cent of claims.
Lucy Hunter, Sainsbury’s Home Insurance manager, states: "Our index shows the huge impact adverse weather conditions can have on the number and value of home insurance claims made."
Those looking to repair the damage caused by the elements may want to consider getting to grips with DIY.
Meanwhile, Confused.com recently advised people to place sandbags outside their home in an effort to reduce the amount of water that can get into a property.
