Eco-friendly DIY lovers who want to carry out a home improvement scheme to install energy efficient upgrades have been told by the British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers’ Association (Beama) that smart meters could make a big difference to their lives.
It was recently announced by the Department of Energy and Climate Change that such devices will be fitted in every UK home by 2020 and Beama’s chief operating officer Dr Howard Porter welcomed the proposals with open arms.
"The installation of smart metering in every home is the first step towards revolutionising the way energy is supplied and distributed in the UK," he said.
However, those wanting to take advantage of their potential benefits sooner rather than later have been encouraged to do so.
Dr Porter added that the technology will supply real-time information, which could cut fuel bills, maintenance costs, increase reliability of energy supply and make the industry more competitive.
