Now could be an ideal time for Britons to consider carrying out DIY work on their home, it has been suggested.
As the world-famous Wimbledon tennis tournament gets underway this week, Halifax Home Insurance reveals that this time of year often sees an increase in the number of homes suffering from broken windows and other kinds of property damage.
Research carried out by the insurance provider reveals that claims for such damage suffered in June last year stood at some 34 per cent above those recorded over the course of January.
“During the summer months we often notice an increase in claims for broken windows and other accidental breakages,” says David Rochester, head of underwriting for Halifax Home Insurance, with Luton and Ipswich among the areas where properties suffer from broken glass and damaged windows most often.
Such comments could interest home improvers looking to boost the security of their property in the coming weeks.
Advice from the insurance provider comes on the back of a recent warning from moneysupermarket.com that properties could be at greater risk of subsidence as this summer is predicted to be hotter than average, with cracks particularly likely to appear around doors and window frames.
