A new survey by the Post Office has shed light on the worst DIY home improvement trends of the last 30 years.
Topping the list in the furniture category is the built-in bar, made famous by the Trotter family in the 1980s sitcom Only Fools and Horses.
It is followed by mock fireplaces, animal print rugs, net curtains and built-in MDF cupboards.
In the worst interior design fads list, artex walls take the top spot, once a common feature in the homes of the 80s.
At number two is avocado bathrooms, followed by woodchip walls, the removal of original features and fake laminate wood flooring.
The survey also showed that bad DIY could put off potential property buyers.
Indeed, some 51 per cent under-34s and 69 per cent of over-55s would walk away from a property if they spotted a home improvement faux pas.
Mike Cook, head of mortgages at the Post Office, said: "Whilst some prospective buyers will always see past out-dated decor, sellers who still cherish features such as built-in bars and artex walls might want to consider making some modernisations to appeal to the rest."
