Planning a DIY project well in advance is key to ensuring that home improvement work goes smoothly, it has been claimed.
Coming as growing numbers of UK homeowners are expected to get their tools out and undertake a spot of summertime DIY, Swinton Home Insurance has advised on the need for thorough preparation before getting stuck into a project.
Indeed, the insurer has stressed that, rather than rushing to get a job finished over a weekend, it often pays to take some time to see a job through properly, with haste often leading to accidents.
"Many homeowners are starting to make their own modifications to their homes in a bid to save money," explained the firm’s insurance development manager Steve Chelton.
"We urge all of our customers to make sure they have adequate accidental damage cover on their home insurance policies before undertaking any DIY work, to avoid any unnecessary claims."
These tips follows on from Guardian writer Marc Lockley’s advice that spring is the ideal time to undertake DIY projects, largely as it falls midway between the big Christmas spend and the traditional summer break.
