Under floor heating hailed in arthritis flare ups

Updated:5th September 2019No Comments3 Mins Read

With Arthritis effects nine million people in the UK and Fibromyalgia affecting 3-6 per-cent of the world’s population, Ambient Electrical are promoting underfloor heating as an effective way of reducing the symptoms most commonly associated with when the bones and joints get cold.

Arthritis involves the inflammation of the joints leading to difficulty moving around and pain at regular intervals. With over 200 varieties of rheumatic disease, Arthritis is not just a disease effecting the older generation, with people of all ages being diagnosed every year. Although there is currently no cure for this debilitating disease, adapting your home and environment in some cases can pay dividends.

Medical experts have long championed the use of heat in reducing some of the flare ups commonly associated with musculoskeletal disorders.

Underfloor Heating - lets-do-diy.comThe Weather Network, clearly supports this belief on their website, and state that ‘some studies have demonstrated a worsening of arthritis symptoms with low barometric pressure and high humidity. There is a theory that low-pressure systems, usually associated with damp or rainy conditions, could cause joints to swell. We know that arthritis symptoms can be worse when the muscles around the joint are not strong or supple enough. Cold weather stiffens muscles, so this may also worsen arthritis symptoms.’

David Goose from Ambient Electrical, the leading providers of electric under floor heating, said, “We have seen an increase in the numbers of customers paying us a visit as a means of alleviating their various disorders. For many of them who suffer from flare-ups during the colder months, under floor heating, seems to be the ideal solution, especially if the areas affected are the legs and ankles.

“Here at Ambient Electrical, we offer heating solutions for wooden floors right through to the more powerful heating systems that are ideal for tile floors. We can also supply under floor heating solutions to areas all over the UK, so if you are located outside our installation area we can refer you to a recommended electrician in your area.”

Jennifer Clough from Nottingham has suffered with Fibromyalgia, for many years, a condition worsened by the cold, she said, “I really suffer with my condition during the winter months, and sometimes I can be in agony. We decided to have under floor heating installed in our bathroom and it has really helped me especially when getting out of the shower. I would certainly advise other suffers to give it a try.”
