DIY 'effective in increasing chances of property sale'

DIY Increases Property Sale - lets-do-diy.comThere are a number of quick DIY tasks that consumers can take to help boost the value of the home which they wish to sell.

A study carried out by HSBC reveals that a tenth (nine per cent) of valuation experts believe painting or varnishing a front door is the most effective way to increase a house's worth in the build-up to a sale.

Repairing wallpaper or paint chips was also highlighted by 64 per cent of such professionals as helping to make a home more attractive to purchase, with 60 per cent of homeowners also believing this would make a difference.

DIY enthusiasts may also be interested to hear that 26 per cent of valuers are in favour of consumers replacing old-fashioned electrical sockets and switches.

Getting to grips with gardening could be advisable, as 72 per cent of both valuation experts and homeowners believe cutting grass and trimming flowerbeds can help to make a difference in the selling process.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph in April, Russell Jervis, director of estate agent Haart, reminded those wishing to sell a property that "good first impressions are vital", advising people to consider de-cluttering their home.
