According to, DIY improvements are worthwhile for Britons buying their second home because they are likely to remain there for a number of years.

The website claimed that homeowners can improve the value of their property by carrying out relatively straightforward DIY improvements.

Added to this, for many second-time buyers, the new home will provide an opportunity to start a family and begin to create their ideal residence.

As a result, these homes are likely to receive more attention than a first property.

Andrew Skipwith, founder of, said "second-time movers are more likely to have cash to spend on home improvements", adding that they often look to make more significant "alterations to their home to suit their needs over a longer period".
