Recycling household goods 'is a great DIY idea'

Recycling household goods 'is a great DIY idea'Recycling old furniture is a great way for DIY enthusiasts to produce new furnishing ideas for their homes, an expert has suggested.

Dan Welch, co-editor of Ethical Consumer Magazine, stressed that when it comes to re-using and recycling household items, one person's junk can be another person's treasure.

He explained that popular online marketplace eBay has played a significant role in encouraging people to become more concerned about re-using household items instead of throwing them away, and highlighted some great schemes that help people recycle goods.

"Wesley Community Furniture in Greater Manchester collects unwanted household goods and provides them to people in need," Mr Welch pointed out.

He added, however, that many people who are genuinely interested in ethical consumerism are frustrated by how hard it is to get small electrical items fixed.

"We could do with some more cottage industry in that area," Mr Welch stressed.

A study released earlier this year by found that Britons pay an extra 44 per cent for green retail products compared to standard goods.
