Cylinder rim lock (Yale lock)

Mortise lock
This is so called the mortise lock as a slot in the door (mortise) needs to be cut out in order to fit the lock. This is a fiddly and fairly difficult task for the DIY enthusiast to complete as knowledge of woodworking is needed as cutting the mortise requires some skill. Mortise door bolt

Hinge door bolt
A different type of door lock, the hinge door bolt is fitted to the hinge side of the door and is designed to prevent doors being taken off their hinges by criminals trying to access buildings. There are typically two or more bolts located under the top hinge and above the bottom hinge.
