    DIYers 'need green incentives'

DIYers 'need green incentives'The government should provide more incentives to British homeowners to carry out eco-friendly DIY projects in the near future, the Green Alliance has revealed.

It was recently reported by the Guardian that a number of top companies in the world - including HSBC, Marks & Spencer and EDF - are planning on teaming up with academic institutions to develop initiatives to cut carbon emissions in homes.

Thomas Lingard, deputy director at the Green Alliance, commented that such developments would be a positive step forward, but state backing would be essential to make a big difference.

"What we really need is a hard commitment from [the] government to bring in policies which will make these kinds of retrofits more attractive and desirable to people around the country," he said.

He continued to suggest that 75 per cent of all properties may require retrofitting before 2050 to benefit the environment and reduce the country's carbon footprint.
