New DIYers have been given some advice on making sure they are not the victim of any accidents.
With the effects of the economic downturn still being felt, many homeowners are choosing to execute DIY projects rather than bringing in any paid help.
Michael Holmes, spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show, gave some advice to anyone looking to take on a DIY project for the first time.
"It is recommended that homeowners start with a smaller, less challenging project to start off with while they get their DIY legs," he said.
"Do your research and plan out what is required to complete the job and what tools are required. Make sure you understand what is expected of you.
He added that jobs such as electrical and plumbing work should be left to the experts.
Mr Holmes' advice came in the aftermath of a DIY accident in which a gentleman in Bury was seriously burned while doing work on his kitchen, according to Manchester Evening News.
