Converting a barn into a home can be an effective home improvement project, one couple suggest.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Derek and Linda Clegg reveal that they have converted a number of barns across Lancashire into residential properties which they went on to raise their three children.
And due to such DIY work, Mrs Clegg claims that she and her husband – who are both property developers – have been able to hold numerous family gatherings "in fantastic rooms with lofty, double height ceilings surrounded by huge gardens".
Meanwhile, work on their most recent project – the Talbot Fold Farm, near Clitheroe – saw the couple build a 30 ft long kitchen.
She adds that renovating barns can provide a vast amount of space to homeowners and such work makes for "the most satisfying conversions of all".
Speaking earlier this month, Ottokar Rosenberger, sales and marketing director at Ratedpeople.com, claimed converting basement space can be an effective way to increase the amount of space within a home.
