Converting a basement can prove to be an effective DIY project, it has been suggested.
In doing so, Ratedpeople.com points out that homeowners can benefit from additional space without having to move, something that can be particularly useful as the firm states many areas of Britain are "becoming increasingly crowded with new and expanded housing".
Getting to grips with such work can also lend a significant boost to the overall value of a home.
Ottokar Rosenberger, sales and marketing director for Ratedpeople.com, states: "A basement conversion can provide the extra dimension that a property needs to greatly improve its market value."
And tackling such a home improvement project can see space created to use as a playroom, an additional bedroom or a lounge, the organisation suggests.
Speaking to the Independent in June, Sharon Zaremski of estate agency Strutt & Parker claimed those looking to extend their property should first research the price of homes elsewhere in their area to get an idea of how much they will be able to increase their property’s value by.
