Homeowners are taking an increasingly creative approach towards their kitchens, a DIY expert claims.
Julia Kendell, interior designer on BBC1 show DIY SOS, points out that people are lending more thought to the units used in this part of a property, with "a lot more interesting surfaces" being used on cabinets and worktop areas.
Reflective worksurfaces are also rising in popularity, she suggests.
"It’s very important to get the kitchen right because it is the hub of the home," Ms Kendell points out.
And the DIY expert claims that people are increasingly investing more time and energy into home improvements as they realise that they are now likely to stay in a particular property for a more substantial period of time.
Meanwhile, research carried out by HSBC earlier this year revealed that fitting a new kitchen will boost the value of a home by an average of £4,147.
