DIY enthusiasts who are keen to save money and conserve energy should build solar panels for their home, according to one solar power blogger.
Shannon Bell, writing for StarSilverCreek, has highlighted the money and energy which can potentially be saved by using solar panels for electricity.
Ms Bell believes most people could build their own solar panel "over the course of a weekend" from as little as $150 (approximately £93) using a number of parts available from hardware stores and online retailers.
By carefully chaining together polycrystalline solar cells and sealing the panel, homeowners can – using a charge controller and an inverter – adapt the solar panel to power batteries around the home.
According to Ms Bell, by using only two solar panels homeowners "can generate enough energy to run several appliances and save about ten to 20 per cent on … electric bill(s) each month".
Last week (January 18th), a survey from Rated People found that energy efficiency will be a top priority for DIYers in 2010.
