DIYers who invest in heat-proofing will quickly cut their energy bills, according to an expert.
Ellie Horwitch-Smith, energy management expert with Faithful + Gould, has highlighted how making a few amendments around the home could save DIYers money.
Her words of advice follow statistics published by her firm which show that Brits spent an extra £1.2 billion on wasted heat during the cold snap this winter.
Ms Horwitch-Smith notes that during cold spells "inefficient buildings perform increasingly badly as heating systems struggle to maintain … indoor temperatures".
She advises the public that an investment in "heat-proofing can rapidly cut their energy costs".
Faithful + Gould, a member of the Atkins Group of companies, is a project and cost management consultancy operating from 64 offices across the world.
Earlier this month, a survey from Rated People claimed that energy efficiency would be the top priority for DIY enthusastics in 2010.
