Recent reports of pay freezes and public sector job cuts coupled with VAT and inflation rising will encourage UK homeowners to consider DIY as one way to save money.
While spending money on professionals is necessary for certain jobs, there are still plenty of home improvement tasks that can be carried out by anyone prepared to give it a go.
As Tony Blue of lets-do-diy.com explains, “People often feel intimidated by small jobs, such as changing doors on kitchen units or putting up blinds. With a little research and preparation these things can be achieved without bringing in expensive outside help.”
Of course, things can go wrong. Emma Thompson of the Liverpool Echo reports that poorly done jobs such as badly-tiled bathrooms could end up costing more money to put right and may affect the salability of a home. She advised people to only undertake jobs they are confident about.
