Entries flood in for national tradesman award

Updated:5th September 2019No Comments2 Mins Read

Entries have been flooding in from Aberdeenshire’s tradesmen for the chance to be named Britain’s Top Tradesman – with an incredible prize available for the lucky winner.

From the entries received so far, there have been some heroic acts and gestures. Some have battled through snow and ice to get the job done, while others help elderly customers to get essential repairs done for free. Many have diversified their businesses to make it through the recession – and all are keen to get their hands on the Top Tradesman title.

One Aberdeenshire tradesman who has been quick off the mark to get his entry in is painter and decorator Sean Hubbard-Read.

In addition to working as a part time nurse Sean Hubbard-Read, 40, has also worked as a painter and decorator for 15 years. However, Sean admits that watching the clock isn’t his only problem as he also has to keep an eye out for deer on the road.

Sean explains: “Everywhere I go I have to watch out for deer. I have written off two cars, swerving to avoid them! The first time wasn’t so bad as I was only driving an old banger. The second time – about two weeks ago – I was more annoyed as I had only just bought it. I was on my way to work. As you can see, I could probably do with a new van!”

Sean is now hoping to be in the running to be crowned Britain’s Top Tradesman 2011 – and win a van of his choice, manufactured by Ford, up to the value of £27,000.

John Mewett, Marketing Director at Screwfix, said: “We’ve had some really great entrants who exemplify what we are looking for in a top tradesman, and Richard is a great example of that.”
