An extension can be a particularly effective DIY project for people to consider, an industry expert claims.
Director for the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) Andrew Leech claims that as the economic crisis continues, taking the time to increase the amount of space in a property is “a good idea”.
When approaching such a form of home improvement, however, the NHIC director claims that people need to have a focus on sustainability.
“These days the whole emphasis when you are building an extension is to make it energy efficient, keep the costs down and to help reduce your carbon footprint,” Mr Leech states.
DIY enthusiasts may also be interested to hear his comments that those with a particularly large bedroom may wish to divide this into two smaller rooms or a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom attached.
Meanwhile, recent research from AA Personal Loans showed that just under a quarter of all renovated properties are set to have an additional room created before the end of the recession.
