Britons could benefit from investing in DIY projects to boost the energy efficiency of their homes as it has been predicted that energy bills will soar in 2011.
With many households across the UK already struggling on the back of a number of recent gas and electricity price hikes, the Daily Mirror cited new figures to suggest that the average bill could be up to ten per cent higher by the end of next year.
The newspaper pointed to the 62 per cent increase in the price of wholesale energy costs as evidence that suppliers could be gearing up to put their tariffs up again within the coming weeks or months.
Mark Todd, director of the website Energyhelpline.com, warned homeowners to brace themselves for a wave of fresh increases.
"There seems to be an almost unstoppable upward trend in the market with prices creeping up remorselessly," he told the publication.
Earlier this month, the Bank of England warned that it expects energy prices to increase further still at the start of 2011.
