First-time buyers or people hoping to move house in the near future with a penchant for DIY might find that their home improvement skills save them money when purchasing a new home, Firstrung has suggested.
Chief executive officer of the buying solutions company Paul Holmes stated that people looking to get onto – or move up – the property ladder could find it cheaper to purchase a house at auction.
And he added that DIYers in particular might be able to save a large amount of money.
"If you find one in slight disrepair you can have ten to 15 grand knocked off it, then deal with the repairs for £1,500," he said.
Figures taken from the latest Halifax House Price Index recently showed that the average property value in Britain increased by 1.4 per cent in November compared to October – to £167,664.
It was the fifth consecutive month that house prices had risen in the UK.
