A new line of environmentally-friendly building materials is set to be produced, it has been emerged.
Those interested in eco DIY may be pleased to know that SmallPlanet Building Products – a new venture from recycling technology developer Knowaste – is to build a factory in Birmingham offering home improvement products created using recycled plastic.
Processing and sanitising nappies and adult incontinence products, the facility – which is due to open in the Tyseley area of the city next spring – will create DIY products such as roof tiles, decking, plastic cladding and siding.
"Our aim is to fill the gap for quality recycled building materials made from products whose disposal would otherwise go to landfill," Bill Knoupe, general manager of SmallPlanet, states.
People looking for eco DIY tips could also be interested in advice by Scottish and Southern Energy spokesperson Craig Thompson, who recently told the Herald that the installation of solar lighting can be an effective way to reduce electricity bills.
